Dead poets society - book review

Todd Anderson and his friends at Welton Academy can hardly believe how different life is since their new English professor, the flamboyant John Keating, has challenged them to "make your lives extraordinary! "

Inspired by Keating, the boys resurrect the Dead Poets Society--a secret club where, free from the constraints and expectations of school and parents, they let their passions run wild. As Keating turns the boys on to the great words of Byron, Shelley, and Keats, they discover not only the beauty of language, but the importance of making each moment count.

But the Dead Poets pledges soon realize that their newfound freedom can have tragic consequences. Can the club and the individuality it inspires survive the pressure from authorities determined to destroy their dreams?

My goal for the future

There are two career goals that I want to achieve in 10 years. One is to be a English teacher in a good high school. But i don't mean that i will not improve myself riding on the presitge of the school i choose. The other one is that i want to make a internet lecture like EBS. In order to do these, I think i have to do the military service as soon as possible. After that, I will study for the teacher's exam so that i could pass it at the time when i graduate from the university. Well.. this is quite far from now, So i think that i just have to study English more.
In addition to the career goals stated above, though it is not related with my career, there are some goals that i want to achieve. One is that i want to make it a point of skating again with my friends who were also preparing for one of the members of the national team. At last, i also want to teach math to students. I do kind of a part time job at a private institute. I answer the question students do not solve. It is quite interesting. And also i have kind of an experience to study math olympiad KMO in my high school, so i want to challenge this area.

What is the study goal for this year?

There are several goals that i want to accomplish. These are some of the plans.
1. During the summer vacation, i will study TOEFL to get better scores.
2. I will make it a point of keeping in touch with my high school teacher who is from England.
well. Someone could think that the number 2 plan is quite easy to do, but i'm sure that it helps
me with English writing though it is not pretty formal.

I have kind of an experience to teach some poor students around my high school. It was a volunteer thing. I saw they were not in good condition to try to make themsevles ready to
come true their dreams. Though i think that i was not a good teacher to them because i usually
play soccer with them, i felt like i have to make a same starting line through education. In 10 years, i will try to be a good teacher and make kind of a web site which provides internet lectures free of charge for poor students.

What language areas do you think you want work on to be a well qualified English teacher?

These days, more and more people are concentrating on improving their ability to speak in English. In the past, particulary in Korea, English education is mainly focused on English grammar and Reading comprehesion. I am not sure about why this situation occured, however we can say that it is different now. In fact, there are a lot of news saying that current english education is being changed to improve the actual ability to make students have a good command of comprehensive English. For example, the government tries to recruit some teachers who can deliver a lecture in only English.
So, I think i should keep pace with the times or might die out as a incompetent English teacher. If someone is to be a English teacher here and now, he should not be content with just an ability to have a talk with native speakers but can deliver a full lecture in English. I know this takes a very long time and troubles. However the different age and the different consumers of English education compel us to provide the good-quality English lecture which can make students exposed to English freely and frequently.
In brief, I want to study about speaking well, i mean, whetever it is, i want to have a full command of speaking English like native speakers.

What type of learner are you??

The MBTI test result revealed that I'm one of the INFJs. I believe this result is quite exact.
Generally speaking, INFJs are introverted and sometimes regrettable because they usally try to contribute to the welfare of other people. Also they like helping others. FAMOUS INFJs are Gandhi, Hilary Clinton and Martin Luther King.
To name a few more characteristics, they have strong a nonverbal sensibility and look quite quiet. I really agree with what it said about having friends. It said that Infjs are very selective in having a friendship because they have kind of a strong and strict standard on right or wrong. Well, I agree with a little bit the result that infjs are not the ones who express themselvs actively, rather keep pinions in them.
I think the group discussion is very good and effective in learning, but looking back on me, I often prefer expressing myself in writing to having a discussion. considering this. This is , i believe, the most remarkable thing that i have known from the result.

Myths about English

Some myths we had in the class are quite interesting... they are..

1.NES is always better in teaching Eng.

2.Tongue condition makes a big difference in pronouncing English.

3.Studying abroad is neccessary in achieving high quality english proficiency.

4.Just listening to something in English makes someone speak fluently in English.

What type of English teacher do you want to be?

In fact, most of us are not accustomed to having such a comfortable(!)conversation with native English teachers. When ordinary students(who just don't have chances to communicate with native speakers freely in classes) have a chance to talk with
Native speakers, they are just sweating and getting nervous. Well so do I. If lucky, teachers try to understand the meaning of what they just said about and help them. I believe we just learn languages, whatever they are, in order to make ourselves understood in them. I don't think we learn languages to boast of our doing well in grammar or something. The basic and most important goal is giving and receiving our thoughts freely in any other languages.
So, i want to be an English teacher who is very friendly, which means students can have a talk with me freely in English. Well, in order to do that, i should try to make such an environment for them to be exposed to English very much and not to input English into them but to make them feel the peace ultimately throught their whole body by speaking in English.
